Aromatherapy Basics
What is Aromatherapy?
Used for centuries in advanced cultures, Aromatherapy involves the use of essential
oils (extracts or essences) from flowers, herbs, and trees to promote health and
well-being.

Alternative Medicine.
Essential oils are extracted from fruits, leaves, flowers and other botanical material
to collect the most therapeutic and pure essence of that source. These oils are
used therapeutically, and have been shown to be very effective for both psychological
and physiological complaints. Clinical research has shown that aromatherapy works
well with stress, anxiety, depression and even pre-menstrual tension, just to name
a few. The body also responds well to aromatherapy when using aromatherapy for muscular
tension, increasing an immuno response and insomnia as well. Oils by nature have
both anti-bacterial and anti-viral qualities, and can be used in many situations
to boost the body's natural healing response or to help alleviate the effects of
stress on the body and mind.
Oils take approximately an hour or less to enter the bloodstream, and effects are
achieved quickly through inhalation. Oils can be used in vaporizers, diffusers,
steam rooms and more. They are also effectively absorbed into the skin through massage
oils, lotions or other products, baths or compresses. When essential oils are absorbed
into the body, molecules will stimulate brain receptors that trigger responses in
the body's limbic system, releasing hormones and neurochemicals that effect the
body's response.

When you come in for your first massage, your comfort is our greatest concern. Before
we begin your massage, our certified massage therapists will discuss your health
history with you so that we can be informed of your current health status as well
as any problem areas or injuries you may have. If you have specific complaints that
you would like to have addressed during your massage, the initial conversation you
have with your therapist is the best time to bring them up, so that they can prepare
your massage with hot packs, certain aromatherapy blends or extra bolsters if you
need them for support.
